General Study Time Allocation Question...

by edde2016 Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:48 pm

Sorry if this has already been covered - I couldn't find anything using the search feature.

Ideally my goal is to become proficient in all the topics covered in the strategy guides.

But if you had to rank all the verbal guides... and separately all the quant guides from most important (focus on these guides first) to least important how would you rank them?

Thanks,

-Ed

Edit: Or what percentage of each section is made up of material covered in each strategy guide? In other words is the verbal part equally divided between critical reasoning, sentence correction, and reading comp questions? Is the quant section equally divided?

Good question! This does change over time, so it's worth asking the question even if you find something written somewhere, because that could be out of date.

Quant:
NP and Alg = very common
WT and FDP = next most common
Geo = least common

Most common areas within books:
Within NP: exponents, roots, divisibility, prime
Within Alg: basic, quadratic, and exponential equations; inequalities also decently common
Within FDP: fractions and percents
WT: general algebraic translations, statistics, ratios / proportions
Geo: triangles, circles

Verbal:
Usually a few more SC questions than the other types.

SC: most common: modifiers, meaning, parallelism, verbs, idioms. Next most common: sub-verb, pronouns, comparisons

CR: Find the Assumption, Strengthen, Weaken; also, Draw concl / Infer = decently common

RC: specific detail and inference questions; main idea questions
