GCF chapter 10 issue

by gur.rulz Wed Sep 29, 2010 9:05 am

Chap-10 Number properties guide. Page 120 4th edition.

MIDDLE:

2. The GCF of m and n can not be larger than the difference between m and n.

how this can be always true? This is true only when m and n are not equal.

What if m = n = 12, m-n= 0

clearly the GCF = 12 >0

Let me know if I m wrong.

Between m and n clearly indiacate that both values have to be distinct. The GCF of 2 similar numbers will be the number itself.
This case refers to different numbers.
