ok, well, maybe the problem is just the specific words that I used there.

the point is that...
• ... more aluminum than glass (percentage-wise) is being removed from the trash -- for recycling purposes,
BUT
• ... nevertheless, the weight of glass went down by a greater percentage.

these are clearly in conflict with each other, so, we need some other reason why the weight of glass went down -- above and beyond recycling.

Hi, i am confused about the following statements in red/blue

My understanding of total weight is =

total weight of aluminum : number of bottles * weight per bottle
total weight of glass : number of glass bottles * weight per bottle

a) Is the red saying referring to number of bottles being reduced or is it referring to total weight of aluminium (bottles x weight per bottle)

I think its the total weight but wanted to make sure

Please take care to read the passage. It says that "the weight of glass bottles in household garbage declined by a greater percentage than the weight of aluminum cans". Clearly we're talking about the weight.
