For which of the following functions is F(a+b) = f(a) + f(b)

For which of the following functions is F(a+b) = f(a) + f(b) for all positive numbers a and b?

1. f(x) = x^2
2. f(x) = x + 1
3. f(x) = square root of x
4. f(x) = 2 / x
5. f(x) = -3x

Correct Answer: 5 (-3x)

I chose x + 1. I was utterly baffled by this one as I don't understand how the f(a + b) function correlates to the f(x) answers. I'm unsure what to plug in to text.

Thanks!
