First time got above 600 (630 Q42, V34)

by karthikyethu Wed Sep 01, 2010 11:23 am

Hello everyone,

I started preparing since april 2010 and gave many gmatprep and 3 MGMAT tests,I crossed the 600 mark first time getting 630 (Q 42, V34), I am planning to give my GMAT exam in sept last week as the R2 application deadlines will be in Nov...
My scores are as follows:

MGMAT 1 460 (Q29 V25)
MGMAT 2 590 (Q44, V29)
MGMAT 3 630 (Q42, V34)

In between I got 2 590s in consecutive GMATprep exams.
I am targeting a score of about 680 to 700..
Kindly let me know how to get there...
I have finished solving each and every questions in Kaplan premier, OG 12 and Kaplan 800..

Still I am unable to figure out why I am stuck at one score ever after preparing for 5 months..

You're making good progress!

In order for us to give you good advice, we need to know more about your strengths and weaknesses. Use the following article to analyze your most recent MGMAT test, then come back here and summarize your analysis. We'll help you figure out what to do!

You may also want to read the following article, which describes how to study a practice problem. The analysis described in the article is the primary way in which you improve; if you have mostly been doing problems but not spending much time analyzing them (including the ones you get right!), then you aren't learning as much as you could be learning.

You can start to use the above analysis right away, while you wait for us to reply to your next post about your practice test. :)

Thanks for the reply Stacey.
I gave my 4th MGMAT exam yesterday and got 620 (Q43 V32).
The main issue I had with quant was that it was very challenging time-wise and as before I had to rush thru the final 7 questions without even reading them. The highest that I got in quant is 48 in GMATPrep so I think with little more analysis of all my previous MGMAT exams I can maintain this score in the actual GMAT.

Coming to verbal I am scoring more in MGMAT than in GMATPrep the last time I scored 27 (with Q48).In my GMATPrep exam I made 10 mistakes in SC and in between my GMATPrep and MGMAT I concentrated on SC part and in the MGMAT I had a good accuracy. This time I have to look at CR.

If I have understood the scaled scores correctly a scaled score of Q 49 and V 35 can get you 700.
So as you have mentioned in your articles I'll analyze each and every question in both quant and verbal and try to get past the best of my scores (GMATPREP Q48, MGMAT V34) so far in my next MGMAT.

The scales change a bit over time - if you're looking up others' scores, make sure you're looking at recent scores. I think currently a Q49 V35 would be high 600s but not quite 700.

I'm glad to hear that you followed up with another performance above 600; it's good to know that you really did make that move and you can back it up. There's more work to be done, of course, but so far, so good!
