Exponential Equation

by josh.patinkin Tue Oct 26, 2010 1:10 pm

(15^x + 15^x+1) = 15^y4^y
[15^x + 15^x(15^1)] = 15^y4^y
(15^x )(1 + 15) = 15^y4^y
(15^x)(16) = 15^y4^y
(3^x)(5^x)(2^4) = (3^y)(5^y)(2^2y)

I have looked through tons of books, and I don't understand the steps taken above.

Particularly, how do we go from 15^x + 15^x(15^1) to 15^x(1+15).

Please read (and follow!) the forum guidelines before posting.

On these forums, we answer problems only from MGMAT or GMATPrep and those problems should be posted in the relevant folder. This folder is only for general strategy questions, not content or specific problems. If you are a course student, please ask about other problems or issues before or after class or during office hours.

If you are not in one of our classes, and the problem is not from MGMAT or GMATPrep, then you can ask about it on another forum (I recommend Beat the GMAT).
