I do not understand the difference between D and E

IMO : D


Even as success rates for surgical intervention increase, the number of patients suffering such life-threatening illnesses as liver disease to breast cancer, who use alternative, often homeopathic, treatments, have greatly increased.

Three main points to check here are highlighted.

as : Is require because we are doing comparison of life threatening illnesses as liver disease and breast cancer.

who : Should refer to patients - But very far from Noun - Modifier should touch the noun. So remove Who with either Noun modifier or Present participle modifier.

have : the number of - Subject is singular. we need has.
