Equilateral Coordinates

Below is a question from the question bank:

If points A and B are on the y-axis in the figure to the right, what is the area of equilateral triangle ABC ?

(1) The coordinates of point B are (0, 5).

(2) The coordinates of point C are (6, 3).


The explanation says the height of the triangle must be 6. Why must it be 6?

we are assuming the base is AB, which is along the y-axis. the height then is the distance of point C from the y-axis, which corresponds to its x-coordinate..
