by saxena.prasoon Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:02 pm

Hi,
I have given GMAT exam in november 2008, scores was not encouraging.
I realised that I am not good at English.
Also I lack in Probability questions.
So could you please guide me in bringing up best possible approach for improving English and also Maths (Probability).

I will really appreciate your time and answer.

Thanks,
Prasoon Saxena

Hi Prasoon,
Can you give us a better idea of your particular struggles within English? Are you having difficulty on the Sentence Correction portion of the test, or on the CR/RC sections? Basically, the more fully that you understand your areas of weakness, the more easily you'll be able to improve upon them.
As for probability, that area of the test does not come up as much as you might think (you're likely to only see one or two such questions per exam), so don't overemphasize that one area of your study at the expense of the other Quant sections. However, in order to get a good grasp on probability, you'll need a good study source. While there are many good books on probability, I recommend that you start with the probability questions from the OG, and follow up for remaining questions/additional problems with our "Word Translations" study guide. Finally, remember to think about each probability question qualitatively before you think about it quantitatively. Oftentimes this will lead you to an easier solution than if you were to just dive right into the math.
