each term after the first term..

by cristychopra83 Tue Aug 25, 2015 8:52 am

Hi,

The following question appeared from a GMAT prep software test that I gave at my coaching institute (sorry do not have the screenshot since I gave the test on institute's computer.)

Each term after the first term is 4 times the square of the previous term. What is the 3rd term after 1st.

The options were numeric values, however I do not remember those. Can you please help me understand how could I approach such a question and what all factors can i consider to eliminate options? Please let me know if this is the wrong folder for this question.

Many thanks

presumably this is a DS problem. (as written it can't be a multiple-choice problem, since there is no information from which any specific values might be found.)

in any case, if one of GMAC's items contains specific numerical values, it's practically certain that the outcome of the problem depends upon those specific values. so, we'll need those to have any sort of meaningful discussion about this problem.

if this is indeed a GMAT PREP problem {= from the official GMAT PREP software that can be downloaded from mba.com), then, yes, you're in the right folder. if it's from somewhere else, then you're in the wrong folder.

...and, if this problem is from the gmat prep software, you should be able to find the entire problem easily enough on the internet.
so, please post the problem in its entirety. thanks.

...and, when you re-post the problem, we'll need more specifics.

i.e.,

this ^^ isn't a question we can answer meaningfully without knowing how YOU approached the question.
what did you try?
what worked?
where, SPECIFICALLY, did you get stuck?
what, SPECIFICALLY, did you understand?
what, SPECIFICALLY, did you NOT understand?

i'm going to go ahead and lock this thread, since the original post contained neither the entire problem nor any specifics. once you have the full question, please re-post it.
thanks.
