The answer is E because (1) and (2) are stating the same thing, niether is sufficient.

1) The value of the sum of a list of 8 odd integers cannot be determined. (ie: 3+5+7+9+11+13+15+17 = 80, but we could have used any 8 odd integers)
2) n^2 = 64 is the same as n = 8, again we know the number of odd integers on the list, but we do not know sum.

As statement 1 states the same thing as statement 2, both statements combined will not be helpful either. Therefore, E is correct.

I don't find this one in our database of CAT questions, so can you please confirm the exact text and/or author of the problem? Otherwise, we will have to delete the question just to be sure we are not violating someone else's copyright. Thanks!
