Doubt regarding classification of OG question

by messi10 Fri Sep 16, 2011 2:37 am

Hello,

I understand that I am not allowed to discuss OG problems. But this is a question on the classification of an OG problem as "Strengthen the Conclusion' in the CR Strategy Guide and the OG Archer.

OG 12, CR Q.58 (pg.502) is classified in the Manhattan Strategy guide and the OG Archer as a "Strengthen the Conclusion" type question. Should it not be a "Find the Assumption" type question (sub topic - Fills a gap in the logic)?

Even in the answer explanation in the OG (pg.583), there is the wording: "This argument does not support its conclusion very well without an underlying assumption regarding XXXXX"

Hope I have not violated any rules. If so, please delete my post

Thanks

Sunil, great to see you here!

I think the case can be made that this is a strengthen, even though the GMAC is using the word "assumption" in its explanation. The question says that the conclusion could be better drawn if one of the following were added as a premise. That is similar to adding another wall (premise) to help hold up the roof of our house (conclusion). In that way, we are strengthening the conclusion. Hope this helps! :-)
