Does unanswered IR question subject to penalty?

by ZhenM102 Wed Sep 21, 2016 11:49 am

Hi, I know Q V section, unanswered or "wrong in a row" would incur severe penalty to scoring. For IR scoring, will these two factors matter?

I am asking because someone told me for IR, as long as I correctly answer 8 questions I can get full score. But there are 12 questions. So I will definitely skip some questions. The question is, if I am on question 8, and I think I could work it out, but time is running out. If I use the rest 5min I can do it, but if the rest 4 questions are unanswered or I rush to guess randomly in the last minute (Probably incurring 4 questions wrong in a row) would it affects my IR score?

My strategy is, if unanswered IR doesn't matter, I will just focus on what I can do and take my time rather than wasting time to guess randomly for the last couple questions.

Anyone knows?

Thanks

The IR section is not adaptive (as the Q and V sections are) and there is no penalty for answering something incorrectly.

BUT: Don't just do the first 8 questions and ignore the rest. Choose the hardest ones to skip (and you have to guess randomly on them in order to skip them and get to the next question). If question 3 looks really annoying, don't do it—make that one a skip!

If you answer 8 questions correctly, it's possible to earn a score of 7 or even possibly an 8 (the top score). If you answer 6 or 7 questions correctly, you'll probably end up with a 6 or maybe a 7, both of which are good scores for IR.

So I would plan to skip 3 or 4, but actually choose which ones as you go. Know your strengths and weaknesses before you go in so that you can make good decisions about what to try and what not to try!

Got it thx! But just want to confirm, the unanswered the IR will not incur any penalty as Q V sections do, correct ?

No, IR has no penalty for wrong answers.

But, as with Q and V, you have to answer the question on screen in order to get to the next one. The only way to leave an IR, Q, or V blank is to not finish the section. You can't skip a question—you have to guess to get to the next one.

But since there's no penalty on IR, this doesn't matter. And since you want to finish Q and V, it doesn't matter there either. :)
