Does gmat ever misgrade? Score has to be wrong

by DavidG514 Thu Dec 11, 2014 10:44 pm

So I just took the Gmat and got a 590 q44 and v27

I do not see how...

Took the gmat prep exams only once each and got the following:

GMATprep exam 1 - 760 q50 v42
GMATprep exam 2 - 770 q51 v45
GMATprep exam 3 -740 q51 v39

And went through all of OG15 with 95% accuracy.

I never got more than 3 questions in quant wrong on any of the exams. A q44 does not seem possible. I thought I did quite well. Does gmac ever misgrade these tests?... Please any thoughts on this appreciated

It could happen, but it would be pretty rare. You can submit a complaint / request to have them check things out. I couldn't find an exact procedure for requesting a re-score of the non-essay portions of the exam, but I'd do what they say on page 15 of this PDF file (submitting a complaint):

http://www.mba.com/~/media/Files/mba2/t ... f?la=en-US

(Clicking the link will take you straight to a download of the PDF.)

A few questions for you:
(1) Did you take those practice tests under 100% official conditions, including essay and IR, time spent per section, breaks between sections, etc?

(2) Had you seen any of those practice test questions in advance of the test? (People often study from these online.)

(3) On the real test, did you finish >5-10 minutes in advance of the time limit for the sections? (That can indicate rushing, which leads to careless mistakes.)

(4) Did you run out of time in any section - either causing you not to answer all questions or causing you to rush at times? If so, please describe what happened.

Take a look at this, too, to see whether any of the common causes of score drops could apply in your case:

Well just took the GMAT again and got 770 this time lol

Not sure what happened with that last test but didn't bother to pursue further.

Congratulations!! Great job.

I had this happen to me on a standardized test once - I rushed through and scored more than 100 points lower than I was expecting. I took it again a month later and scored in the 99th percentile.

I was initially convinced something was wrong with the test. Then, I realized I finished even earlier than usual and had to admit to myself that I probably made a lot of careless mistakes... :)
