Do I need to finish each section in its own time?

by zoha.zargham Tue Aug 31, 2010 3:00 am

Hi,
can I take some time off the math section and add it to my verbal section ? My pace in the math section is much better than my pace in the verbal section, probably because English is not my native language. So if I finish up the math part am I allowed to use the remaining time on my verbal section?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Zoha

@Zoha: I hope you understand how the GMAT works. You are given 1 hour for writing (AWA's), then a five minute optional break. Then you have the quantitative section for 75 minutes in which you are supposed to answer 37 questions. Then another 5 minute optional break. Finally you are given another 75 minutes to complete 41 questions in Verbal.

You cannot trasfer/add/ adjust time across questions. Treat the gmat as three separate timed tests( AWA(2 topics)-60 minutes,Quantitative-75 minutes and Verbal-75 minutes.)
The only option you have is to work on your pace to finish the verbal section on time.

gokul is exactly right about almost everything (and thanks for answering, gokul!). The two breaks are 8 minutes each (though by the time you check in and out of the room each time, the breaks are effectively probably only 4 to 5 minutes!).
