Do GMAT scores depend on the avg time per question

by jigar24 Sun Aug 09, 2009 12:17 am

Hi,

I was wondering if GMAT algorithm keeps a track of the avg time taken to answer each question.

For eg.

If in quants section, I answer first 30 questions in 70 minutes and last 7 in the remaining 5 minutes as against the average of 2 mins each question, would it hurt in anyway?

I'm perfectly aware of the fact that there is a heavy penalty for leaving out questions. However, I m wondering if I complete the entire section, but don't stick to the avg of 2 mins per question, does it hurt??

Thanks,
Jigar

The score will not change based upon the amount of time you spend on those questions, no. But, of course, if you do 7 questions in 5 minutes, you're likely to get a lot of those questions wrong - and that's what will hurt your score a great deal. The penalty for getting a string of questions wrong in a row is significantly higher than the penalty for getting just one or two wrong (sandwiched by two correct answers).
