As part of my MG CAT 4 test, the following data sufficiency question came up to me:
What is the value of the tenths digit of number x?
(1) The hundredths digit of x is 5
(2) Number x, rounded to the nearest tenth, is 54.5
According to the test, the corect answer is C.
From my point of view, the correct choice should be E.
(1) is not giving enough information.
(2) is telling us that that, once rounded, the tenths digit becomes 5, but even together with datum (1) we have two choices: 54.45 and 54.55. Both choices will yield 54.5 when rounded to the nearest tenth.
what am I missing here?
I would really appreciate if anyone could provide me with a bit of light here.
thanks!!
