The material in our books is sufficient to score in the 99th percentile on the test (99th %ile starts at 760). I have had students who have scored in the 99th percentile after taking our class and using our materials.
The only people I know who have scored 800s are fellow teachers. I haven't had a student score an 800 on the GMAT. I've been in this business for 15 years and I probably only know about 5 or 6 people who have scored an 800 on the official GMAT.
I'm not saying you shouldn't target that score - I just want to give you an idea of how very rare it is. It's not like the GRE quant or the SAT, where lots of people can score an 800 on a section. (In fact, 800 on the GRE quant is only the 94th percentile!!) I have taught students who scored 800 on sections on the SAT, but never the GMAT.
In my opinion, to get an 800 on the GMAT, you also need to have some very significant natural ability with standardized tests, even beyond the natural ability that those of us who score in the 99th percentile (but not 800) possess.
