Difference in difficulty level of Verbal/Quant

by guest Mon Jul 07, 2008 12:23 am

It might sound irrational, but is it true that if one takes GMAT in USA as compared with the one who takes it in another country can result in a different difficulty level of Verbal questions.

The logic is the general level of familiarity with the subject. While a Verbal question might be difficult for a non native english speaker, but easier for a native english speaker.

Sorry, if that sounds stupid.....

That's sort of two different questions. The problems themselves are the same, regardless of where you take it - no objective difference. Whether you find a problem easy or hard, though, is going to depend upon your own specific strengths and weaknesses. Something might be labeled a 600-level but it's something that's easy for you, so you feel it's more like a 500-level. But that same problem could be really hard for someone else, and that person might feel it's more like a 700-level. The problem is still a 600-level question, because the difficulty levels are calculated across the entire population of test-takers - that's where it falls, on average, for most people.

So you may FEEL like it's different. But it's actually not.
