Devastated 460

by shankar245 Fri Jan 06, 2012 6:29 am

Hi Stacey,

I'm a great fan of all your articles and every bit of relates to my weakness that I'm going through.

I gave my GMAT and got a devastign 460 ( 35 Q , 20 V)

Before that i gave practice tests and managed only 470 in MGMAT CAt exams.( I assumed all woudl be fine and went ahead and gave the exam) Big Mistake.

I M good at maths and have been scoring 90% in my school and colelge days.

When i was evaluating the Test results in MGAMT i realised that in quants i was in the 89% till 24 th question then its started plummeting as qts and time went by.Ya the total time i had taken till 25th question was like 10-12 mts more than the actual tiem i should have taken

Any suggestion how can i improve abt this.
Please let me know if you need more details.

Added the assessment summary.

Just to add i was scoring 35 and 33percentil in verbal in MGMAT test
a 15 point pull down?

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond - we've been crazy lately.

As you found out, you should generally assume that you are going to score about what you're scoring on practice exams. (Or lower - we can think of lots of reasons why someone might score lower when they get to the real test. There aren't a lot of reasons why someone would suddenly score a lot higher on the real test.)

So, on quant, you had serious timing problems; read this and start doing what it says:

I can't open your document, but actually, I don't want you to just give me a bunch of data. I want you to learn how to assess the data yourself - that's an important skill. Use the below article to help you assess the results:

http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Then come back here and tell us your analysis. That'll tell us your strengths and weaknesses on both quant and verbal in terms of content, question type, and timing - so that'll help us figure out what to do next.

Also, did you take your practice tests under 100% official conditions, including essays and length of breaks?

Yeah all the exams were 100% official conditions.( Essays. No Pausing)

I shall post a reply shortly with the analysis.

That's good (that the exams were under official conditions). Yes, get back to me whenever you can with the analysis and we'll figure out what's going on.
