It's good that you have lots of evidence, both long-standing and recent. It's tough to get accommodations on this test, but it can be done if you have the right paperwork. I have spoken before with students who have gotten accommodations and they have recommended finding an evaluator who has specific experience with GMAC. From what I've heard, it's much tougher to get their approval than it is for SAT, etc, so an evaluator who has written evaluations specifically for the GMAT is more likely to know what to document / say in order to get you approved.

In terms of preparing, until you hear whether you have been approved, study as though you are not going to get approved. Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared!

Hi Eric,

Were you successful in getting accommodations? Like you - I have my paperwork in order and was wondering if you have any suggestions given your experience with GMAC.

Thanks!

eric.david.grossman Wrote:Hello,

I am preparing to take the GMAT (finished my MGMAT course) and will be applying for non-standard accommodations including extra time and use of a calculator. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this? I have read everything GMAC provides on the topic but would love to know if anyone has applied and either received/been denied accommodations.

By way of background, I have received extra time and use of a calculator since high school and on the SAT and AP exams. I received these accommodations in college as well and have 3 educational evaluations (the most recent of which is less than a month old) substantiating my claims. I am submitting my evaluations, teacher comments from high school, job performance reviews, etc. I mention these things because I know how important the paperwork is. While I did do quite well in college from a good school, I had accommodations throughout.

If anyone received accommodations and has any advice that would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience - it's so helpful for others.

I changed your email address to make the @ sign "AT" instead. This is because there are computer programs called web crawlers that wander around looking for email addresses to grab and add to spam lists. If you post your email address online, do so in a way that minimizes the chances that a web crawler will pick it up. :)

Also, from talking to students, I've heard that it takes pretty much everyone 6+ weeks to go through the process, so I'll echo Eric's advice: submit early.
