Creating Practice Sets

by KatarinaM414 Wed Oct 07, 2015 6:00 pm

Hi - I'd like to create daily practice sets that mimic the GMAT to study for my upcoming test in December - say 10-15 questions per day. I have the OG/13 book and Navigator. What do you suggest as the best way of creating practice sets that include different subjects and varying difficulty levels? Should I just pick randomly through the book for questions? I ask as the idea of doing random questions and trying to flip through the book for each question, logging into Navigator, and dealing with the timer seems really logistically complicated. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks so much,
Katarina

Hi! First, take a look at this for some ideas:

https://www.manhattanprep.com/gmat/blog ... blem-sets/

I put stickies on all the pages I'm going to need so that I can flip there immediately. (I use one sticky that's sticking out beyond the edge of the page and a second one that's placed directly on the problem I want to do.) I don't worry about doing the 10 (or however many) problems in any particular order. I just finish one problem and then randomly pick another sticky and flip to that page until I have no more stickies. (*NOTE*: make sure to write down the problem # first thing, though, so you can find it again later!)

I don't use Navigator while this is going on - I just use my stopwatch on my phone. I use the lap button so that the timer just keeps running; by the end, I have the time for each problem. Then I go enter my answers and the times into Navigator.

People sometimes ask how to adjust for the fact that it takes a second or two to flip over to a new page. You don't adjust for this, actually. On the real test, you have to select your answer, then click Next, then click Confirm, then get the new question. That's about how long it takes to flip to a new sticky.
