COORDINATE GEOMETRY

by Guest Sun Mar 16, 2008 4:49 pm

Hey Gang,

Anyone knows a good source on the internet where I can obtain in depth knowledge on coordinate geometry? I have used the MGMAT book; however, I am still lagging in this area on practice tests. I need to fill the gaps in my knowledge base around this subject.

Thanks.

I don't know of any specific books or web sites, but if it were me, I'd start with a Google search to find some sites that specialize in the topic and go from there. I've also recommended some books to my nephews (who are in high school) called the Demystified series - there's algebra demystified, geometry demystified, etc. You could go to your local bookstore, grab the book, sit in the cafe, and take lots of notes to bring home, since you don't need the whole book... :)

Also, just remember that geometry typically comprises about 5-7 questions total on the test, and that's for ALL of geometry. So don't stress too much about this one subset of geometry!

Is 3-D Coordinate Geometry tested on the GMAT? I have some basic knowledge, such as the distance formula applied to 3 axes but that's pretty much it. Do I need to know anything else?

They will sometimes have questions on boxes (3D squares or rectangles). Occasionally, the solution will require you to be able to draw or visualize a triangle in the box (for the diagonal). And very occasionally, I've seen a cylinder problem. That's typically about it (and most people won't see a 3D question at all).
