Composite score?

by koleary1 Wed May 06, 2009 11:06 am

I am wondering which schools will combine your highest Verbal and Quantitative scores into a composite score. I improved my Quant score vastly this time around but lost two points (equivalent to 1 percentage point) on Verbal. I am interested in knowing whether top schools will be more interested in the score on my second test, or if they will look at my best Quant and Verbal scores and combine them into a composite score.

Thanks in advance!

Most schools will look only at your best overall score; most won't do a composite score. If there are particular schools you're concerned about, you can look on their web sites to see whether they mention a policy on this; if they don't mention anything, they will likely look only at the best overall score. The few who will do a composite typically say so. (Or you can ask about the particular schools in the "admissions consulting" folder on this forum - the admissions consultants may know that info as they deal with the schools on a regular basis.)
