Comments on my April 13th "annoucement"

by makram.defreige Wed Apr 18, 2012 2:57 pm

Hi Stacey,

Please check my post of April 13th in "annoucement".
Do you think this scoring makes sense ?

Please provide me with your opinion about that so that I know how to proceed.

Thank you very much in advance

Best regards

post from announcement thread is pasted below (note: in future, please start your own new thread; please don't add to an announcement thread unless your post is directly related to the announcement - in this case, the launch in general of GMATPrep 2.0. Thanks!)

Good evening,

I just took the GMATPrep 2.0 without the IR part (I just answered randomly to skip it).

I just wanted to let you know that I took test 2 and this is what happened in the Verbal part:
Q1 wrong
Q2 to Q15: CORRECT (all of them!)
Q16 to Q41: some mistakes interspersed (maximum of 2 wrong answers in a row, never longer strings)

Total: 14 mistakes, 27 correct

I scored very low: 17 out of 60! Is that possible ?!
I believe something went wrong here as well, otherwise please feel free to correct me.

Thank you
Best regards

I find that strange. I'd like to know more.

Do you still have access to the data? (Unfortunately, once you log out of GMATPrep 2.0, you can no longer go back and look at all of the questions.) I'd love to know the actual progression of right and wrong. Is it possible that, for example, although you had no more than 2 wrong in a row, you had a bunch wrong in general in the last 10 or so, just interspersed with a periodic right answer?

Hi Stacey,

I believe you are right about what happenned at the end of the test: a bunch of wrong periodically interspersed by a correct answer. (no long strings of wrong answers however (longer than 2), as i mentionned)

I am going to re-try test no2 of GMATprep 2.0 anyway this weekend.
I will keep you posted about the new situation.

For test 1 of this same software however, everything was normal.

Best regards

okay - something like that could explain a general score decline at the end of the test. eg:

W
W
R
W
W
R
W
W
R
W
W

That's 8 out of 11 wrong. Even though there aren't more than 2 wrong in a row, that proportion would definitely bring the overall score down.

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Stacey,
You are indeed right, something like that happened at that test, I remember...

I took again test 2 (Verbal part only though), and this is what happened:

Q7: wrong
Q12-13: wrong (string of 2)
Q18: wrong
Q25-26: wrong (string of 2)
Q31: wrong
Q37,38,39: wrong (string of 3)

Score: 37

Total: 31 corrects, 10 incorrects

So I understand that the mistakes must really be as spread as possible (and best case avoided :) ).

Thanks to you :)

My 3rd attempt is in 3 weeks, and i finally saw the reason why my verbal performance was poor.

I will keep you posted on my result (I really hope it works this time).

Cheers!
