Clueless with raw scores

by ParijatS965 Tue Sep 15, 2015 12:47 am

Dear Stacey

Am a bit baffled by the results I have been getting. Still stuck at 580 score. The data is as below. As per my understanding, if Iam getting tougher questions wrong means I should be doing well. Pls see CAT 2, 3 and 4. Shouldnt my verbal have a better score? Pls advise. Thanks.

Avg. percentiles (wrong answers) Scores
Dates Tests CR RC SC PS DS Q V

Just so you know, average percentiles do not necessarily correspond to your overall score, as the test is not scored based on an average of anything. The GMAT is a "where you end is what you get" test. You could be scoring in the 90th percentile for the first half of the section, but if you drop to 50th percentile by the end, then your score will be 50th percentile.

But your verbal score has gone up quite a bit, from 25 to 31. That is a very good improvement - from 38th percentile to 61st percentile. That is a solid verbal score. (Note: the Q and V scores don't mean the same thing. 31 on quant would be considered quite low. 31 on verbal is good, about the equivalent of 45 on quant from a percentile perspective.)

So you are doing well to improve your verbal - keep up the good work! Have you been able to figure out why your quant score went up to 45 on one test but dropped on the two tests after that?
