Choices of non-GMAT reading material

by eggpain24 Thu Aug 14, 2014 8:16 pm

HI,Stacey

I read one of your blog suggesting that we can use some non-GMAT materials to hone our reading skills

I am just wondering whether “New York Times” will also be a good source to practice, especially in terms of Reading Comprehension, since I notice that a few sentences corrections come from New York Times.

Thanks!

I would go for harder reading material to practice RC, things such as:

http://magazine.uchicago.edu/
http://harvardmagazine.com/
http://sciam.com/

I think the NYT can be good for learning how to construct and deconstruct complex sentences - though they're not always perfect / right. :)

yep

after I read some of the article in scientific american, I still find that the articles within in is somewhat deviating from what GMAT is testing.

I decide to have more analysis in the official guide and prep questions

Yes, Scientific American can sometimes be a lighter than GMAT passages - you have to look for the most technical ones. Or you can look up science articles on the other two sites I listed.

yeap

I check sth. up in technical ones such as neuroscience, biology and astronomy, some of which are quite similar to GMAT readings.

Really great finds!

Thank you
