On this question, I dont understand how you go from 15^x(15^1) to 15^x(1+15).
Could someone please explain the process behind this?

that is not what is happening at all. what's happening here is that they are converting (15^x + 15^x*15^1) into something else. factor a 15^x out of both parts of this expression, and on the left you have 1 and on the right you have 15^1=15. this is where we get the 15^x(1+15)..
