Career Change - Bschool

by mattjstern01 Wed Mar 25, 2009 12:56 pm

Hello:

I am trying to decide to apply to b-school on a part-time vs. full-time basis. My main motivation for going to school is to make a career change (from financial services to marketing/brand management). Is it then unrealistic to pursue an mba on a part time basis?

If switching careers is a viable option via a part-time program, are there any programs in particular that would best suit this aspiration (i.e. Langone Part-time MBA program)?

Thanks.
Matt

Hi Matt, thank you for your question.

Part-time MBA programs in general have the expectation that you're pursing the mba in order to advance further in your current career. That doesn't mean a career change is impossible of course, but it does mean that the focus of the application questions, recommendations and interview will be more on how the MBA will enhance your current career than on the job switch. If that's not the direction you want to go in, your answers to the questions may be less specific and credible. That's not the case for all schools though, so consider each program carefully.

Sincerely,
