Can you please help me solving this CR Problem

by ranjeet1809 Sun Apr 11, 2010 6:05 am

Some medical researchers suspect that eye mascara brushes can become contaminated with bacteria, leading to conjunctivitis and other eye infections. The contamination usually manifests itself after six months of use. Because of this, these researchers suggest that mascara brushes should not be used for more than six months.

Which of the following statements would most weaken the suggestion put forth by these medical researchers?

A The medical researchers found that those people who carefully sealed the brushes in their mascara tubes were as likely to have contaminated brushes as those who did not.
B The medical researchers did not find more bacteria contamination in mascara brushes that were used for eight months than those used for six months.
C The medical researchers do not know why mascara brushes usually become contaminated after six months.
D The medical researchers did not consider other possible contaminants such as viruses, or product defects.
E The medical researchers found that those who used contaminated mascara brushes had no higher incidence of conjunctivitis or eye infections than those who did not.

B and E are contender.

but I will opt B as the author here gives stress on 'six months' and after the use of 8 months the level of bacteris is same so below six months also me be dangerous.

In E the use of 'contaminated mascara brushes' itself says that the reason for contamination is not mascara brushes irrespective of time period of their uses.

The choice B is irrelevant here because it compares brushes used for 6 months with the ones used for 8 months, but both of them are outside the prescribed usage time. We do not care whether it gets more contaminated after 6 months or not.

IMO E....

This option eliminates any effect of using the brush or its contamination itself.

Whats the OA...

What could be on brushes after 6 months or after 8 monts, if that causes eye infection then it strengtehs the argument. Argument doesn't say that contamination increases with time. It may be same after 6 months or 8 months, But it is contaminated.

E says that the contamination is irrespective of usage of brush, since it same for all. So there might be some other reason for the same. So seems right.

I was confused with D, anyone can tell why that was wrong?
