Can someone break the topics down?

I do apologize if this has been posted/answered before. I tried searching and couldn't find a valid thread... if there is one please direct me towards it... if not...

I think it would be beneficial to students if the topics tested most frequently/ not tested frequently on the gmat would be broken down. For example, I remember reading on another forum (gmatclub) that inequalities and number properties are typically about 80 percent of the questions. Combinatorics and probability are the least tested... geometry is also tested, but not much focus is placed on this area...

So if someone would break down the MGMAT guides and list them by most importance, that would help guide our study approach... most important guide as far as questions on gmat are concerned, etc...

Im not a GMAT expert, infact this April will be my first & hopefully last attempt at the GMAT.

Having said that, to answer your question: It would be a bad idea to try and predict what the GMAT is going to throw at you. from all the practice tests what i can see is that, almost all the topics are covered. Personally i think, by trying to predict what GMAT is going to test, is like losing the first battle!. Self goal... You-GMAT : 0 - 1

Moreover, if you prepare all the topics covered then you tend to be more confident & wont have any kind of fear before seeing each screen on the GMAT.

for sure I agree! We should cover everything, just wanted to know the topics that are most important vs not so important topics (minor problem types)... it would help to invest more time in the important topics and not stress over topics which may not weigh as much on the gmat...

if one of the knowledgable instructors can shed some light...

I am a paying student, and I still have not got one reply from anyone @ manhattan gmat... any reply would suffice, but to completely ignore this, is not in my opinion good customer service... After hearing all the good things in other forums about manhattan gmat, this is disappointing to say the least...

It's a good idea to read the forum guidelines before posting. One of the recommendations is NOT to "bump" your post or reply to it before an expert can get to it, as that knocks you out of your place in the queue (and puts your question later in the queue) If you had known that, then you would have known not to reply to your own post and you would have received an answer before now. :)

For future knowledge: all questions are answered based on their position in the queue. This position is based upon the date of the LAST post in the thread. Because of the follow-on posts, your post was constantly pushed later in the queue before I could get to it.

Also, note: the forums are a free service open to the public. I usually answer questions in this folder twice a week, but it's not unusual to have to wait a week for a reply even if your post didn't get pushed later in the queue. We do answer everything, but the forums are not designed for very quick responses.

If you have a more urgent question, please contact the office or talk to your teacher.

Okay, on to your (very good) question. The reason we don't post this information as an absolute set thing is that it changes over time. But it's a great thing to know, so I'm glad you're asking the question.

Most commonly tested areas:
Number properties in general (especially exponents, roots, divisibility, primes)
Algebra in general (especially all kinds of equations - basic, exponential, quadratic)
fraction and percent problems, especially as word problems
any of the above in the form of word problems (requiring you to translate to math)
average, median (stats)
geo is not super common but within geo, triangles and circles are most common

SC: modifiers, parallelism, meaning
CR: find assumption, strengthen, weaken, draw conclusion / infer
RC: infer and specific detail; also main idea
