As X, rather than Y

Hi,

I have a question regarding the idiom, X rather than Y. In the following scenario, which one is preferred? Is "as" necessary as it creates parallelism?

I view voting as a responsibility rather than a duty.
or
I view voting as a responsibility rather than as a duty.

both of those versions are fine.
