Application deadline close to GMAT test date

by mia828 Fri Aug 21, 2015 11:41 am

Hi -

Did a search on this and didn't come across anything in the archives! I have a question regarding a retake of the GMAT and application deadlines.

As of now, I am retaking the GMAT just a few days before the Round 1 deadlines for a school that I am applying to. While I will have my Quant and Verbal scores immediately, I won't have the AWA Essay or Integrated Reasoning scores until "within 20 days" - but by then the Round 1 deadline will have passed. In other words, I'll only be able to self report part of my new score on the online MBA application.

Am I just SOL for Round 1 of this school?

Thank you in advance!

You will also have your IR scores. And the essay score frankly just doesn't matter - leave it blank if you don't have it yet and just say you don't have it yet. It will still be in your official report by the time they get around to looking at your application. :)

Also, the typical reporting period right now is about a week. They give themselves the "up to 20 days" thing just in case, I guess. But lately, everybody's been getting their official report within about a week!

Thank you so much for the quick response and that helpful explanation, Stacey! The only problem is that when I tried, just for fun, to see if I could leave sections of the score reporting part of the online application blank (or with text i.e. "NA"), I get the below error:

The data you just supplied contains 2 omissions or datatype mismatches. These problems will have explanations below them. Some fields are required by the institution to have a value. Other fields need the data to satisfy length limitations or certain formatting constraints.

And there's also no section to add in any commentary/verbiage to explain that I don't have the score yet...any possible ideas? Would definitely love to get an (hopefully!) improved GMAT score in for Round 1!

I would contact the school directly to see what they say. Most schools say only that you have to have taken the GMAT by the application deadline date, so they would know that some people won't have their essay scores by then. They should have a work-around!

(Do look up what the school says already on their website. This could be one of the schools that actually requires you to have taken it far enough in advance that you have the full scores by the deadline date. As I said, most schools don't do this, but there are some holdouts that do...)
