Am worried .!

by mirantdon Wed Jul 06, 2011 2:45 pm

I started the GMAT endeavor 3 months ago .
I have taken a few Cat s till now ..
MGMAT 1 : 570
Gmat prep 1 : 570
MGMAT 2 : 630
MGMAT 3 : 600
MGMAT 4 : 650

Gmat prep 1 : 710
MGMAt 5 : 670

My exam is 15 days away . Am I prepared to take the real thing assuminga m aiming for 700 + score .
DS is my achilles heel in Quant and Sentence Correction in Verbal as they have been right from the start . I havent madeany substantial improvements in them . Do you foresee a rise by another 30 points or you would suggest that i reschedule the exam ? I score scores in the range of 46-49 on the Quant Section
and 28-35 on the Verbal on the MGMAT s . Do you think they really mimic the actual thing .

PS : Yes these test were mostly under official conditions, and nothing less than a 700 would do for me .

Define "mostly under official conditions." :)

Did you do both essays fully? Did you take exactly two 8-minute breaks at the expected times? Did you not use the pause button, etc?

If so, then your current scoring level is in the 670 to 710 range. You also say that want a 700 minimum and your test is in 15 days. You need more time to ensure that you are solidly above 700.

You list a fairly wide range of verbal scores - 28 to 35. Why is the range so wide? What's fluctuating a lot? How's your timing on verbal? Are those scores all recent, or is that over the length of the entire 3 months? Have the scores generally been moving up, or have they been fluctuating even very recently?

Use the below article to assess your most recent MGMAT test:

Then come back here and show your analysis. (note: NOT just the data - I want to know what you think the data means. You need to know how to assess yourself! Then I'll tell you whether I think you're right and advise you about what to do. :)

Yes, these tests were over the course of three months. My verbal score has been really erratic. If I would talk about recent statistics the score has varied from 31-40 . The major difference , Reading comprehension sets . I bombed those in my lower score test . Reading comprehension seems to be the newest kid on the block try to rob away my score . Either I can get all of them correct or I bomb all of them. I generally struggle with the Sociology RCs . Is there any way to significantly improve in them ?
Yes , I have rescheduled my exam and I have an additional month to prepare. Can you please suggest me ways to become a solid 700 level scorer ?
As you said, I analysed my cats , found my timing haywire in the Quantitative section ( I tend to fall in love with certain problems and find it hard to do them apart . got to rectify that :) ) . However, just like my verbal scores . My error patterns are also pretty erratic .

For timing, use this:

http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... anagement/

Note: timing problems can take 4 to 6 weeks to resolve, so get started on that ASAP.

For RC, start with these three articles:

http://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/04/ ... mp-passage
http://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/07/ ... rc-passage
http://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/09/ ... ading-comp

Then, when you're starting to feel good with the reading part of things, move on to the major question types:

http://www.manhattangmat.com/articles/a ... estion.cfm
http://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/09/ ... prehension
http://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/11/ ... il-problem

You're close! Solidify the timing problems and the RC issues, and you should be there!
