My teacher taught me that adverbs of manner appear only after verbs or infinitives, before adjectives or adverbs, before or after participles, but I saw in some sources that adverbs of manner can be put also before a verb. Any help ??
i'm able to understand 0 percent of what you wrote.
please provide examples: • examples of what "your teacher" would coll correct • examples of what "your teacher" would call incorrect • examples of the things that might be exceptions
Sorry, I'll try to be more accurate and clear. As I learned, adverbs of manner (honestly, badly, quickly, fluently…etc) can appear only after verbs: "The children play happily" So basically my question is: is it correct that the adverbs appear before the verbs ? like this example: "He generously gave us the money"
According to what she says it isn't correct, but I saw in some in some sources it is.
nothing wrong with "he generously gave us the money".
this is a style issue (this means IT WILL NOT EVER BE TESTED on this exam), having to do with emphasis. e.g., He gave me the money freely --> greater emphasis on "freely" (the listener/reader most likely knows about the gift already) He freely gave me the money --> greater emphasis on "gave me the money" (this is probably new information for the listener/reader)
remember, though, this kind of thing will NOT EVER BE TESTED on this exam.
