A question about "describe the role" CR problem.

by liu1993918 Sun Dec 21, 2014 9:08 am

Is "explanation" a conclusion in "describe the role" CR question?
I did the 89th CR question from OG13. The 2nd bold-face is a premise that supports the conclusion. However, D, a wrong option, says the second bold-face gives the explanation that the argument seeks to establish.
Thus, I thought maybe D is wrong because the 2nd bold-face is just a premise, it cannot be a explanation.
Am I right?

the thing to realize about the word "conclusion" is that there are lots of different kinds of conclusions. there are explanations, judgments, predictions, logical deductions... you name it.

if some more specific word (explanation, judgment, prediction, etc.) applies to a conclusion, then the boldface questions may use that word. they may also just say "conclusion".

in the problem you've cited, for instance, "judgment" could be substituted for "conclusion" in the correct answer.
