"it" can only represent a noun.
in case1 - it tends to represent "workers accept supervisory positions" & hence incorrect.

This question is from kaplan.

The explanation given says that 'and so' is not often used in spoken english and the GMAT tests it.

Kaplan says that 'and so' and ' to do so' are sometimes tested.

Could you please give me similar situations when 'and so' could be used.

Unfortunately, Kaplan questions cannot be discussed on these forums (by request of Kaplan)

However, if you google on the the uses of "and so", you will find some uses
