A boat traveled upstream...

by MaysaJ757 Wed Dec 17, 2014 8:17 pm

Hi there,

I'm struggling to approach this problem the right way. Any guidance here would be great.

A boat traveled upstream a distance of 90 miles at an average speed (v-3) miles per hour and then traveled the same distance downstream at an average speed (v+3) miles per hour. If the trip upstream took half an hourlonger than the trip downstream, how many hours did it take the boat to ravel downstream?
Answers:
2.5, 2.4, 2.3, 2.2, 2.1
(Right answer is A)

Start by setting up an RTD chart. This should *always* be your first thought when you see a rates problem. Do what you can with the chart, then let us know if you get stuck later in the problem.

also, for future reference, this is the wrong thread for gmat prep problems (which have their own folder).

please take care to post things in the correct places. thank you.
