#84 from Rephrasing Lab

by callumthomas10 Sat Apr 26, 2014 9:04 am

In this problem the instructor rephrases the question to be;

Is x + y < -1?

With my rephrasing I got;

Is x + y<= -1?
(because lets say if x + y = -1, not just x+y <-1, then z must be >1, because -1 + z > 0, right?)

The difference in the rephrasing doesn't end up impacting the final answer, but I wanted to check if my rephrasing was in fact correct, and if not, why? Was I just lucky that I got this correct.

Thanks

Please remember to read the forum guidelines before posting. This folder is only for general strategy questions, not content or specific test problems. Check out the content / problem folders and post in the relevant folder depending upon the source of the problem you want to post (and make sure to follow the rules about banned sources). If you are a course student, you can also ask about other problems or issues before or after class or during section.

This question can be posted in the Manhattan GMAT Non-CAT folder.

Please also note that we do need the full text of the problem in order to answer the question. Unfortunately, question volume is so high on the forums that we don't have the time to look up every problem referenced - we'd never get through all of the posts. :)
