7 Days to Exam

by atul.niit Sat Jul 03, 2010 12:39 pm

Hi,

I have the exam scheduled in next 7 days. My GMAT prep score today was 650. (M50 V 27). w/o AWA. I am not aiming particularly for 700. I guess even 670-680 is okay, with exp of 12 yrs.

I bought the Manhattan Tests just 10 days back and the scores there are in line with GMAT Prep (640-650 range). But the problem is I am scoring somewhere around 44-46 in M and 33-34 in V. But all of a sudden in GMAT Prep it is 27 (V).

What should I expect my actual scores to be in GMAT next weekend?

Atul bro .....

You WILL get above 40 ...... Go with that premise ......& AIM FOR THAT

Dont fret or panic ....... & definitely dont ask others what they feel .....
It doesn't matter .......

Just remain cool and i am sure u will get a GOOD verbal score .... aim for 700 plus .... u should get it !

Hi,

There is more trouble yesterday..I scored 39 in Verbal. Not sure how..and what different I did. just not sure what to do...

Strategies: Nothing, just keep practicing. One thing I noticed is that the questions in GMAT Prep are way different from the ones in Manhattan, here one choice is clearly superior to others. In GMAT Prep it is not.. Ensure that you exhaust GMAT Prep questions once you are done with GMAT PREP 2. Intentionally mark a question wrong to see the next question different in GMAT PREP.

Atul, I edited your post. Don't put your email address like that on public sites. There are software programs that automatically "crawl" the web and find strings of words with that "at" sign in the middle. They copy the address and put you on a bunch of spam email lists. I assumed you didn't want that to happen, so I edited your post. :)

Generally speaking, IF you have taken your practice tests under official test conditions, then you should expect to score in the same range on your real test if you are within 10 to 14 days of your real test. If you have NOT taken the tests under official test conditions, then you should expect to score somewhat lower on the official test - depending upon how much you deviated from official testing conditions.

Skipping the essays often causes people to experience a boost in their verbal scores (sometimes quant, but more often verbal). Your GMATPrep score of 650 without essays, then, is most likely a somewhat inflated score. (Some people don't experience score inflation when skipping the essays - but most do.)

You don't mention whether you took the other tests under the same conditions (no essays) or other conditions, so I can't compare the different sets of results.

Your goal is 670-680 and you have said that your practice test scores are mostly 640-650. In 7 days, you should expect your score to be at or below that level (possibly lower because you have not been taking the practice tests under official conditions). As a result, assuming you really do want to get 670-680, you should consider postponing your test. That's probably not what you want to hear, but I would rather tell you now when you still have a chance to make a decision - I would hate for you to take the test and be disappointed by a lower score that was predictable based upon your performance so far.
