630, 650, 530, 680, 730. WTF?

by Jason81 Mon Oct 12, 2009 3:29 pm

GMAT's this Friday and I have a 530 CAT looming. Here's my history:

630 - Princeton CAT
650 - MGMAT 1
530 - MGMAT 2
680 - MGMAT 3
730 - GMATPrep 1

My goal is > 90 percentile and I'd feel confident going in if I hadn't scored a 530 on the MGMAT CAT 2. Kinda stressing since I need to nail the GMAT the 1st time to start school Spring 2010. Anyone else have an outlier like this?

I will say that the conditions in which I took all but the 730 CAT were pretty strenuous and included ice cream men playing Christmas music in October, neighborhood kid screaming contests, a parrot, a domestic dispute next door, a watermelon salesman with a bullhorn and cat turf wars.

Took MGMAT 4 and got a 700. Feeling a little more confident for Friday.

Ah, cat turf wars while trying to take a practice test. Good times. :)

Sorry I didn't get to this before your test. With all of the other scores you posted, the 530 is obviously an anomaly, but I agree - it would be nice to know what happened.

If you still want to figure it out:
Did both quant and verbal drop significantly or mostly just one?
How was your timing? Did you finish on time? Did you generally balance your time well across questions or did you have too many slow questions offset by a lot of fast ones?
Did you have any strings of wrong answers? If so, which sections, how many, where in the section?
When you went back to take a look, did you notice a larger number of careless mistakes than usual?
Did you take all of the tests under official conditions, including essays and 8 minute breaks? Did you take the practice tests generally at the same time of day? On what dates did you take the practice tests? (Eg, did you take CAT 2 the day after taking CAT1, when you may have been tired out?)
