As a MGMAT student, I can honestly say MGMAT does not nickel and dime its students. It's actually quite the contrary as I will explain below. But to address your point directly, I believe there are 6 exams plus a 7th that is free. In addition, by purchasing just one of their books for ~$20, you have access to all 7 exams. Compare this to other GMAT companies that charge as much as $20 PER exam.
Now to address the cheapness or lack of cheapness for that matter. Their classrooms have an abundance of free snacks, notebooks, pens, organic teas, ALL FREE to the students. As an added benefit they order pizzas and sodas on your last day of class. When I first discovered this, I wondered why the company would so such a thing...Surely its competitors would avoid these costs which eat into their profits. It's called customer satisfaction. Think about it, if MGMAT is willing to spend extra amounts of money on pizza and notebooks for students, it means that they're not likely to be cutting costs across the board i.e. making sure their instructors stop right on the clock, restricted office hrs slots, not having adequate coverage on the forums. I think most of their students feel they received a good value for their money. In addition, MGMAT has instructors that go beyond the call of duty in spending extra time with students, and an awesome customer support staff. In all, I think most students would agree that its money well spent.
