590 Q44 V27 - I'm shocked :(

by viveknanda1 Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:20 pm

Hello people

Today morning I thought I'll be writing a happy gmat experience post, but I had an abysmal experience...bizarre !!
Today I gave my GMAT for the 2nd time and unfortunately I scored a dismal 590 Q44 V27 !!
I gave my previous attempt almost a couple of years ago and back then I scored a 560 Q44 V25. Though, I wasn't disappointed with the score I got on my first attempt because my preparation was not up to the mark at all, but for my second attempt I was pretty well prepared. I thought if not 700, I'll at least touch a 650+ score this time.
In my mock tests I did much better than what I did in the real gmat today, here are my scores from the mocks-

MGMAT CAT 1- 640, Q44 V34
MGMAT CAT 2- 670, Q45, V36
MGMAT CAT 3- 670, Q48, V36
GMAT PREP CAT 1- 660, Q49, V32
KNEWTON's FREE CAT- 650, Q49, V31
MGMAT CAT 4- 710, Q49, V38
GMAT PREP CAT 2- 680, Q50, V31 (Just 3 days before the actual GMAT)

THE GMAT(Today) - 590, Q44, V27 !!

I'm shattered !! I thought I was well in control of the GMAT this time around, but after seeing my score in the real gmat I'm so very much depressed...In the Quant section I felt I was doing fine, in fact I only guessed 1 or 2 questions. I completed the test just about at the right time and paced nicely throughout the test.
Verbal is surely my weak area but I've not scored a lesser score than 31 throughout this season what I did today at the actual GMAT.

I'll really appreciate your views, I've to retake the gmat (Yet to decide when). Please advice what strategy should I follow. Also, if there is some special recommendation that you want to give me please feel free. At present, I'm sad, clueless and depressed. I hope you all will guide me to the right direction.

Thanks !!

Please don't reply to your own post unless you have something new to add! We reply to the oldest posts first, but the date is based upon the LAST post in the thread, so you just waited longer to get a response. :(

Granted, not much longer this time - just 20 minutes or so - but there have been times that people have done this and had to wait days because they end up behind dozens of other posts.

Also FYI - it's not unusual to have to wait 5 to 7 days for a reply, especially this time of year when we get a LOT of posts.

So, your test. I'm sorry you had a disappointing test day.

Did you take your practice tests under 100% official conditions, including essays, length of breaks, etc? If not, your score might have been artificially inflated. Take a look at this article:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ent-wrong/

Tell us what things in that article might apply to your case.

Next, you mentioned that you took a practice test 3 days before the real test. What else did you do in the last 3-4 days? Generally speaking, the closer you get to the real test, the LESS you want to do. If you do more, you burn yourself out and then you can't perform as well on test day. For instance, I tell my students they can't take a practice test within 5 days of the real thing - and I prefer 7 days.

We also want to get more detail on your strengths and weaknesses - including timing. (I talk to people every day who tell me they don't have timing problems - and then we look at their test data in more detail and it turns out that they don't have a timing problem. So take a look!)

Use this article to analyze your recent MGMAT tests:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... ice-tests/

Then come back and share your analysis here (not just the raw data - tell us your analysis).

If you do have timing problems, read this and start doing what it says right away:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... anagement/

Once you give us your analysis, we'll help you figure out what to do!
