540>620

by vijaysanjyot Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:13 am

I took my GMAT test tuesday and due to an mishap the night before the test I could not concentrate on my test and scored
540(q37,v27).

I am planning to retake the test on May 4th.

so far I have used following resources

RESOURCES
OG-11
OG-VERBAL-REVIEW
OG-MATH-REVIEW

MGMAT-SC
MGMAT-WORD PROBLEMS

PRACTICE TESTS

MGMAT 1-4. I scored consistently around 600-640
gmat prep 1 - 560
gmat prep 2 - 590

I need to score around 600 to apply for evening MBA program.

Here are my weaknesses

1. RC
2. CR - Boldline\inference\dialog questions
3. DS - Tricky DS
4. SC - Dificult SC - I know all the grammer rules but soem time don't know how to apply them
5. PS - Tough probability questions \ inequility\MOD problems

If you have any suggestions or any comments on how do I approach my study for the next month please let me know.

My problem is so far I have gone thro' most of the available GMAT material and I don't know where to start...

Any suggestions????????

where can I get actual GMAT like practice..

is GMATFocus any good ???

You don't mention why you weren't able to concentrate on the test (and you don't have to tell us why!) but I just want to ask whether you are reasonably confident that you probably won't have a similar mishap in future? In other words, what are the chances that the same thing (or something similar) might happen before you take the test next time? If it was something unusual, that's fine, but if was something that could happen again, you'll need to think about how to minimize the chances of having it affect your test score the next time too.

Also, were you quant and verbal subscores on the official test both lower than what you were getting on your practice tests? Or did only one section drop a lot? If so, which one? Were there are other differences between practice tests and this official test that could have factored into your performance (besides the mishap you mentioned)?

Some of your review should include the materials you have completed; you may have gone through the materials once or twice, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have mastered everything. That even includes going over some of the same problems again.

There are also new sources you can use. OG12 was just published and contains about 300 new questions (the others are repeats from OG11). And GMAT Focus is also a good source of new questions. There is some overlap between GMAT Focus and OG12, but none of the OG11 questions are in GMAT Focus. Finally, you may also be able to find an old copy of OG10, which overlaps quite a bit with OG11 but does also contain a couple of hundred questions that aren't in OG11.

Finally, you may want to get some prep books that can help you with some of your weaknesses - for example, it doesn't seem that you have any books specifically dedicated to RC or CR, but you mention those as areas of weakness.
