2+2+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8

= 2 * (1+1+2^1+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7)

= 2 * ( 2 + 2 + 2^2 + 2^3 + 2^4 + 2^5 + 2^6 + 2^7 )

= 2 * 2 * ( 1 + 1 + 2^1 + 2^2 + 2^3 + 2^4 + 2^5 + 2^6 )
...

= 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * ( 1+1 )

= 2 ^ 9

Another approach:

2+2+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8

2(1+1)+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8
2(2)+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8

2^2+2^2+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8
2^2(1+1)+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8
2^2(2)+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8

2^3+2^3+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8
2^3(1+1)+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8
2^3(2)+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8

2^4+2^4+2^5+2^6+2^7+2^8
...
2^8+2^8
2^9
