12 Days to GO

by gmatmeitav51 Sat Feb 21, 2009 6:48 am

OK ...
Lets start ...
Just finished another MGMAT

My scores are :

20.02.09 CAT5 Q48 V34 Tot 680
23.01.09 CAT4 Q48 V29 Tot 630
02.01.09 CAT1 Q44 V19 Tot 530

I need to score 700 and very strong at Quant' as far as you know do I have a real chance for that?
I have done each test only once. I'm going to investigate my last CAT ... and do the Gprep.

any strategy will be very useful.

You're in the right range. You've shown nice improvement so far. If you can continue to improve in this last week or so, you do have a shot.

Oh - did you take your tests under official test conditions? (essays, 10 min break, quant, 10 min break, verbal - no additional breaks or anything in between, taken at roughly same time of day as real test, food and drink only at the break, etc)

If you deviated from the official test conditions, then the scores aren't as valid (in terms of predicting test day performance). If, for example, you skipped the essays, then your verbal practice score is likely higher than it would have been had you done the essays. That sort of thing.

Assuming that you did take your tests under official conditions, you're very close - so you have a shot but you might not quite make it in 12 days. Are you working against a deadline? If not, you may want to postpone the test a little to make sure that you are squarely in the 700 range before the test. If you can't postpone for whatever reason, do you have the capability to take the test again if you don't get it the first time? (You have to wait 31 days to take it again.)

It looks like your quant score is close to maxed out but your verbal score has more room for improvement. Maybe spend about 60% of your time on verbal going forward - still work on quant to keep your skills up, but spend a bit more effort on verbal. If you want to reply with some information about your strengths and weaknesses in verbal, we'd be happy to advise.

I have done the tests as in the real GMAT timing.
The last MGMAT was with the essays.

I have done the official GMATPREP and scored much lower than at MGMAT.
22.02.2009 Q49 V26(!!) Total 620.

In the last 10 days I am going to work only on the verbal part. My Q is very strong, and I expect to score 50. never scored 35 at the verbal.

I'm not a native English speaker, and the RC is very hard for me ... Any ideas?

What was different about the GMATPrep test in which your verbal score dropped? Anything at all, no matter how small.

How was your timing in the verbal section? Did you generally move steadily through the test, giving appropriate time and attention to each question? (1 to 1.5m for SC, 2m for CR, 2-4m to read a passage, 1m for general RC questions, 1.5 to 2m for specific RC questions) Or did you have to rush at times and possibly make random guesses? If you did have to rush and/or make random guesses, on how many questions would you say you did that? Did you do it on a lot of questions in a row or were the guesses scattered? Conversely, did you spend too little time and finish the test with a lot of time left over?

Did you take the essays on that test? How was your stamina? How did you feel toward the middle and end of the verbal section? Did you have something to eat and drink on the breaks? Did you get up, walk around, and stretch?
