Manhattan Prep’s Pre-MBA Boot Camps: Getting Ready for the Intensity that is Business School
Last year, Chris Ryan, our GMAT instructor and Vice President of Academics, realized that helping our students through the GMAT just wasn’t enough. When I had students come up to me and tell me their GMAT score, I was thrilled, said Chris, but I wanted to help them with their next step and set them up for success in business school.
Although Chris considers the two years he spent at Duke Fuqua to be some of the most incredible of his life, the beginning was nothing short of overwhelming. Considered to have a non-traditional b-school background (pretty much anything besides investment banking and consulting!), Chris was immediately surrounded by terms like NPV, puts and calls, and game theory. In thinking back, Chris knew that, had he had a leg up when he had arrived, he would felt more comfortable in business school.
Hence, the idea for the Pre-MBA Boot Camp was born, and the inaugural Camp ran last year. Designed for admitted MBA students who need a refresher in “ or an intro to! “ the core topics in the first year of b-school, the Boot Camp achieved Chris’s goal of leveling the playing field for these students:
Boot Camp was extremely helpful at the terminology and building confidence “ like in Finance. This semester, I’m even taking valuation as an extra credit “ very challenging, but I think I’m ready.

Boot Camp felt like business school in that we worked in teams, tackled different topics (accounting, finance, econ, pricing), especially the case “ very business-school like. But the difference is that at Boot Camp, I could ask the basic questions that I wouldn’t have had the guts to ask during my first semester.

Boot Camp helped me integrate everything “ Excel, manipulating data, how to create (and present!) a presentation, working on different parts of a big picture and Chris was great. I’d give him an A, no question.

And this year, with non-traditional students continuing to comprise a large portion of business school classes, Manhattan Prep is doing it again. Starting on Wednesday, June 20th, Manhattan GMAT will be kick off this season of its pre-MBA Boot Camp. This multi-session course will provide enrollees with an intro to Strategy, Economics, Statistics, Finance, Pricing and Accounting, all applied in the context of a B-School case study. The course takes place in New York.
