Meet the Manhattan Prep Scholars for Q3 2020!

A compilation of Manhattan Prep scholars from Q3 2020

The Manhattan Prep Scholarship has a multi-year tradition but we’ve been working hard to make this scholarship better each year. Our goal this year is two-fold: Improve our scholars’ experience by focusing on impact beyond removing the financial barrier of a class and offer more scholarship opportunities to students.

Typically, we’re able to serve three students a quarter. In order to meet our commitment in 2020 to expand our scholarship opportunities, we have partnered with trusted partners to increase this number. During this past quarter, we received another record-breaking number of applications—the second record in as many quarters!

We are so proud to announce that we were able to offer scholarships to 13 outstanding individuals this quarter. This is an incredible group of students and we’re humbled to be with them on their journey. Congratulations to our Q2 2020 Scholars!

Please meet some of this quarter’s scholars, in their own words:

ANDREA BISCHOFF

Andrea Bischoff graduated from Thomas Edison State University in September of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. Prior to Thomas Edison, she studied at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and managed her own holistic health business. Her passion for service has inspired her to apply to one of our nation’s top foreign service programs for graduate school. She is grateful to the Manhattan Prep Scholarship Team for helping her reach her goal of becoming a Foreign Service Officer. With lots of hard work and continual support by Manhattan Prep, she knows that she will make her dream a reality.

JAKIYAH BRADLEY

Jakiyah Bradley is a recent graduate of New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Studies where she earned a B.A. in Urban Policy and Social Change. There, she served as Chairperson of NYU Student Government. She also conducted research at the intersections of urban toponym, public policy, and decolonization in Berlin, Germany and Charleston, South Carolina. Through her internships with The Bronx Defenders, Legal Aid Society, and the New York State Unified Court System, she became intrigued with how the law can be used as a tool to dismantle oppressive systems. Currently, Jakiyah is the Research Special Assistant at the Vera Institute of Justice. At Vera, she is working with senior leadership to develop research theories of change that allow for participatory action research. In her spare time pre-COVID, she enjoyed travelling and visiting her favorite french fry shop: Pommes Frites. She is grateful to be a recipient for the Manhattan Prep scholarship as she studies for the LSAT!

ONAOLAPO MICHAEL ODUNJO

My name is Onaolapo Michael Odunjo, originally from Nigeria, but currently in New Haven, CT. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bradford, Uk. I am currently working as a process engineer and project manager and would love to get into a dual degree MBA with a Master’s in Engineering. I am a huge nerd when it comes to renewable energy and would love to work in a clean energy company or continue my research in renewable energy and start a clean energy company in Africa to provide electricity to the population. I also believe the future is the youth so I volunteer a lot as a peer assisted leader, youth counsellor. I am happy to receive the Manhattan prep scholarship, and am working to make the best use of this opportunity as it is a vital step to me achieving my goals.

AUDREY POZERNICK

I am a senior at the University of Utah with a double major in Political Science and the Philosophy of Science. My dream, as you can guess, is law school; I am a One Refugee scholarship student and I hope to someday dip my toes into civil rights advocacy through international policy and criminal justice reform. Now, more than ever, this world needs lawyers that are both passionate and aware about the issues facing our local and international communities. As a recipient of the Manhattan Prep Scholarship, I hope to become just that.

SACHA SERVILLE

My name is Sacha Serville and I’m originally from Trinidad and Tobago. I am a wife, mother of 3 and I majored in Psychology and worked in the field for 6 years. I relocated to the US in 2015 and am in the process of switching careers. I hope to apply to PA school in the 2022 application cycle. I enjoy Latin dancing and did it professionally for many years. The only dancing I do now is in my kitchen with my little ones. I teach English to children in China and love interacting with them and learning about their culture. When I’m not parenting, studying or dancing, I’m nose deep in a book. Reading all genres of books has taken me on more adventures that I could recount. I’ve lived and studied in Trinidad, Barbados, the UK and now in the US. However, the US is where I am finally putting my roots down and hope to enjoy a successful life and career here with my family.

AMBER SPRINGER

Amber recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Sciences.  She is pursuing an MBA to prepare herself for a successful career in the aviation industry. She wants to further develop the analytical and management skills necessary to create a positive impact during her career. She is grateful to be awarded the Manhattan Prep scholarship, which will provide her with the resources and support needed to obtain a strong GMAT score. She enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
